Thelma Lovejoy Dawson

April 15, 1927 - October 17, 2016

Thelma Lovejoy Dawson, 89, of Charleston finished her journey on this earth and went to join her heavenly father, on Monday October 17, 2016, surrounded by her family. Thelma was born April 15, 1927, to the late Clyde Lee and Ada Elizabeth Ewing Lovejoy. Preceding her in death were her husband, SGM Robert C. Dawson; her only sibling, Joann Lovejoy Caldwell; her grandsons, Robert Allen Copley and James Shannon Marsh; her son-in-law, James Copley and a great great granddaughter, Anastasia Nicole Harmon. Thelma was a 1945 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and Capitol School of Business in Charleston. Thelma loved to yard sale with her daughter, Sharon and friend, Shirley Fritsch. It was always a great adventure. She loved traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She loved her church, North Charleston Apostolic Church always taking pictures and greeting her church family with a sweet smile. Due to her illness, she had not attended in the past five years. Thelma retired from Marshall University Graduate College after 25 years of service. She made many friends; especially Phyllis, her sidekick. She was a Christian, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a kind and compassionate soul who will be greatly missed. Survivors include her beloved children, sons, Bob Dawson and wife Tyra of Longwood, FL and James Dawson and wife Lynn of Biddeford, ME; daughters, Sharon Dawson Martin-Copley, Teresa Dawson Marsh, of Charleston and Pratoom Pauley and husband Van of Lincoln County. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren, Michelle Dawson Harmon, R.J. Martin and fiancée Haleigh and Johnathan Reveal, all of Charleston; Bobby Carr Dawson of Leesburg, FL, Angel Harkins of St. Pete Beach, FL and Justin and Marissa Dawson of Biddeford, ME. Her beloved great grandchildren, Anthony and Rusty Lee Harmon, Jaylee Annelle Barlow, Alivia Jane Martin and Kenson Reveal also of Charleston; Trace Lawson of St. Pete Beach, FL, Jayden, and Jase Dawson of Leesburg, FL and Olivia Ruby Pirkola of Biddeford ME. One great-great granddaughter, Adalyn Mae Harmon of Charleston. A celebration of Thelma's life will be held on Saturday October 22, 2016 at Noon, at North Charleston Apostolic Church, 2408 6th Avenue, Charleston with Pastor Anthony Moss officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Laneese, Brittany and Beth of Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of our precious mother.
